On the Wing

Saw this vee of geese yesterday. It's the first large group I have seen this season. They were on their way south, of course, and looked to be heading a little west of south toward a lake in a national wilderness area over there a couple of miles. They were flying quietly, as I could hear no calling at all. The sounds of the vocal flight of geese in the cool air of fall is one of the great thrilling sounds of the world. That and the whistling of elk.

For me, fall is the first explosion of color from the maples, and the first morning I can see my breath as I trudge to the truck, and work.

It's refreshing beyond measure... although the coming winter may not be. The cycles continue.

The geese are coming in here, too, headed on down South.

The geese have been here for a little while now. I'll have to watch to see how long they stay. They eat up so many plants and make a racket. And they do leave little messes all over. It's interesting to watch how they live.

They are pretty to watch when they fly.

They are here quite often. But, I don't know where they go when they're away.

Perhaps in summer, it's to your neighborhood.
