If you calculated the relatively uninhabited land on both sides of the road all the way down to my post office it would amount to more than a million acres. And where do they like to hang out?
I imagine they like traveling on the level roads, where they don't have to worry about tripping over anything much.
Last time I was up at Yellowstone we had to slow down for coyotes using the roads. When I talked to a ranger about it, he said they were doing it to avoid being eaten by the wolves, who wouldn't go near the roads. The coyotes didn't seem to be afraid of people.

We have those too, they prefer hanging out on the flat land, they are skittish too, you never know what they are going to do...
