Grasshoppers

Hoppers!

The dread scourge of the plains.

And do we ever have them in abundance this year!

When I walk around the place they rise in frantic clouds ahead of my steps, flapping off in every direction.

The wild turkeys are happy at least

(That's a two-bit piece for scale.)

In 2002, I drove mom from Independence, MO to Bishop, CA. Passing through Wyoming, she started talking about her childhood migration from South Dakota to the West Coast in 1933.

Most memorable line: "We had to leave. The drought, poverty and grasshoppers tore at the soul of every living thing."

She and dad hated hoppers untill the end of their days.

Best to you, sir.
